We have seen a massive profit for Apple since the opening of its US iTunes Music store. It’s not just music that has been selling well through the store, but also video content. From TV series to music videos and short Pixar animations. Fox Studios, although they have products on the iTunes store, want to make their own online distribution store.
My concern is will this include Australia? The current iTunes store for Australia, doesn’t allow you to download the films and TV programs seen on the US store. We need to break this release/broadcast dates wall down. With new technologies like the internet, why is Australia seeing TV programs one season behind the US. There is no reason for this and it is only pushing Australian TV viewers towards illegally downloading the current US episodes, prior to their Australian release.
Seven, Nine and Ten (FTA channels is Australia) need to rethink their strategies. FTA TV in Australia could be revived, but I’m not sure that the networks are brave enough to make a move forward.
