Blockbuster in the US have announced they will be their online movie rental policy. They are double the amount of DVD’s members can rent. Also as part of the change members can return movie in-store. These changes have been implemented to lift membership numbers and challenge Netflex, an online DVD rental company.
This is a service not offered by Blockbuster in Australia. Is this something for the future for Blockbuster? Bigpond already have an online DVD movie rental program. Other companies offering this service in Australia include, V2Direct, Webflicks and Homescreen.
I’m not a big fan of these types of services. I prefer to just go down to the video shop when I want to watch a movie. I would use a service such as this if it was completely online, on demand service. Choose the movie you would like, its downloaded and then you can watch it for a limited amount of time.
There are a few problems with a completely online service. Australia’s internet speeds and the amount of people who have a computer connected to their TV.
