Six months ago, NBC threatened legal action against YouTube after one of its users uploaded a Saturday Night Live skit, “Lazy Sunday”. In a strange twist NBC have just announced it will be partnering with YouTube to start a new channel on the site. The channel will be used as a promotion tool for NBC programs including Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and The Office. YouTube users will be able to submit their own 20 second promo video for The Office. The winner will be aired during an episode of The Office later in the year.
We see now mainstream media attempting to slither their way into the user generated content arena. In their usual fasion they try and stop it, but as they say “If you can’t bet them, join them.”
