Some people may know about the application called Democracy, that lets you download and watch video, very similar to the iTunes podcast setup.
Well it has been renamed and they have released a new version. Miro as it is now know as, has some great features. I’m constantly running out of hard drive space when downloading my podacasts. With Miro it downloads a video and then gives the video an expiry e.g 5 days. This expiry can be changed in the preferences; it ranges from 3 hours to 1 month. Once you have watched the video there is also a button that allows you to keep the video indefinitely.
A big plus is the additional search function that allows you to search for videos on a number of sharing networks. This includes, YouTube, Veoh, Revver and many more. Not only can you search those sites within Miro and view them full screen, you can also download them. I guess the one downside of this is you need to download the video before you can view it. Unlike the sharing sites where the video is streamed, but you can’t have it both ways.
Adding new channel is very easy, with there being over 1500 channels for you to browse through, with the number constantly rising. If you can’t find what you are looking for, you have the option to add a URL and subscribe to other channels not in the Miro channel guide.
The downside is Miro not syncing with the iPod, but I see in posts that they are working on it. Below is an article on Miro Vs iTunes and there is also an site with a little script someone has made to get Miro videos to iTunes folder, so they will sync with your iPod (I haven’t tried it yet). On the official site there is a screen cast that will go through what Miro can do.
I would recommed downloading it and giving it a go. If you are looking at an alternative from iTunes for sorting your videos out, things could be just the application.
